Agriculture

The productive activity of the Las Lomas estate has been historically linked to agriculture. The quality of the land, its extraordinary location and a benign climate have been determining factors in achieving a high quality and highly diversified production. Today, the property has over 5,000 hectares dedicated to extensive and intensive crops, representing 78% of the total 6,400 hectares of the estate. Complejo Agrícola Las Lomas, the company running the agro-industrial and sales operations, is an international benchmark. The firm commitment to innovative agriculture, with high added and sustainable value, has been the key to success. In recent decades, organic farming has been especially promoted and, today, more than 150 hectares of production has been endorsed by the LEAF Marque certificate, placing them as a European benchmark. The objective: to promote a strategy of continuous improvement, based on innovation and the development of these types of crops that are increasingly in demand.

Extensive Crops

Extensive agriculture at Las Lomas occupies an area of approximately 4,000 hectares. The main crops are cotton, multiplying sunflower, commercial corn, commercial sorghum, sugar beet, cereals, soybeans and wheat, both multiplying and commercial. Cotton deserves a special mention due to its historical importance on the estate for more than sixty years. It currently occupies 20% of the cultivated area and is highly valued internationally for its high quality. The successful evolution of this crop, due both to the modernisation of the processes and the continuous testing of varieties and forms of exploitation, is a good example of the innovative modus operandi of Complejo Agrícola Las Lomas.

Intensive Crops

Finca Las Lomas has allocated 894 hectares to the fruit and vegetable activity, both for organic and conventional production. Its favourable location and continuous work to enrich its soils has allowed it to develop a successful line of woody crops with high added value. Within this project, 451 hectares have been allocated to the crops of woody crops. The avocado production deserves a special mention, with an exploitation of 290 hectares and an extraordinary quality. Over 90% of its fruit and vegetable production is exported and, thanks to its great quality, is highly demanded in markets as demanding as those in Northern European countries and the United Kingdom. The fruit and vegetable produce of Finca Las Lomas can be found in major supermarkets such as ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Marks & Spencer.
